The Heart of CMC series highlight organizations chosen by members of the CMC team. Each chosen organization is near and dear to the heart of the person who authored the piece, and publication of this post does not necessarily indicate endorsement or a sponsored relationship with CMC as an organization.

It’s hard to believe that one of my favorite nonprofits has been doing good in the greater Cincinnati area for almost 5 years now.

The first time I heard of Do Good Mission was when one of my good friends shared it on Facebook. She and her family were Do Good Mission’s November 2019 story – and the very first family they helped. Her daughter had a form of childhood cancer and they had a baby boy on the way. Do Good was able to help them by providing funds for cleaning services, meal delivery, and a family vacation after she went into remission.

I remember thinking to myself that this organization was exactly what I wished I could do if I had unlimited money and time.

I fell in love with their mission and their name and I began doing good alongside of them and helping support their mission through doing a Cards for a Cause fundraiser, Pogo Pass fundraiser, donating raffle items for several of their events, sharing with others about the organization, participating in their events, and more.

Now going on five years later, Do Good has helped so many families facing tragedies and life-threatening health concerns. They’ve also helped provide supplies for teachers, Thanksgiving meals, Christmas gifts to needy families, Care packages for first responders during the pandemic, and more.

One of my favorite things that Do Good does are monthly workshops that help get them involved in doing good for their community, too – this is so important in helping raise a generation of helpful, compassionate, and empathic kids! This makes my mama heart smile and hope it helps my boys grow up with a heart to serve others and think of others before themselves. They are designed for kids 5 and up and are usually free. We have gone to a few, including valentines workshop (making valentines for nursing home residents), Halloween workshops (making boo buckets for neighbors), and our favorite was making dog treats for service dogs and dogs at the animal shelter! My oldest really enjoyed it!

Do Good Mission has also hosted two Good Runs (10K/half marathon) and will be hosting another soon! For beginning runners, there’s no better way to get off to a running start (pun intended!); the trail is completely flat and mostly shaded, and the atmosphere is uplifting and positive!

They have the annual Party at the MAC (Morrow Arts Center) – basically Do Good’s Headquarters – and it’s a big festival to thank their supporters as well as build into the community. I also love how the shops and studios at the MAC all support each other!

But perhaps my very favorite thing Do Good Mission does is the Hearts Ball! A family-friendly Valentine’s dance complete with festive decorations, photo booth, DJ, and fun surprises. It’s the perfect mother/son date for me and my boys. My mom has also joined in every year, and this year my mother-in-law attended as well! We all enjoyed the festive quality time together.
