‘Twas the morning of Christmas and all in my house,
Were still quietly sleeping just like a mouse.
I was lying awake too excited to sleep,
So I thought I’d get up to just take a peep.
Much to my wondering eyes did appear,
A living room full of gifts and not one person to hear,
So I started to unwrap each gift with care,
In the hopes that my parents would not know I’d been there.
I unwrapped each present and oohed and ahhed,
Then wrapped them back up before I’d get caught.
I headed back to my room in the wee hours of the morn,
And knew no one would be the wiser and there would be no scorn.
I slept and I slept since I knew what I had got,
And gave myself away by not getting up early to see what had been bought.
True story, I was 13 and wanted a little black and white TV more than anything, and while everyone was asleep I got up, unwrapped all my presents, wrapped them back up and then went back to bed.
Apparently, my re-wrapping was not done as well as the middle-of-the-night-me had thought, and I got caught as soon as my parents looked at the display of gifts under the tree.
My parent were furious with me, and they did not let me have my coveted TV for Christmas. I learned a lesson that day and never snooped again.
