BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! TCT presents Santa Claus: The Musical at the Taft Theatre this month. It’s Christmas Eve! After 1,000 years of faithful service, Santa and Mrs. Claus announce their decision to hang up the big red suit and train a replacement. Enter Nick: a website designer and single dad to tech-savvy daughter, Bee. With pressures mounting–and a jealous, naughty elf thwarting their every move–will everyone in Santa’s Workshop come together in time for Nick to take the reins?
Jingle jam-packed with a sleigh full of fun, energetic, and original holiday music, Santa Claus: The Musical‘s heartwarming story and score put joyful audiences in the spirit of the season! Plus, you get to see the amazingly wonderful Bob Herzog (as Nick) on stage again!!! We got a first glance on opening day of the show’s run to give you all the best tips and inside info, so you can get your own tickets and enjoy the show.
Ideal for ages 4+. This production runs 60 minutes without an intermission.
We got our Crown Club treats when we first walked in. There are signs next to the merchandise table directing to the pick-up for the special goodies club members receive before the show. For this one, our special treat was a light-up Christmas hat! I was sooooo excited about this. I love light-up ugly Christmas sweaters and have never had a hat version!!! I wore it later that night to Kings Island’s WinterFest and twinkled around all night long. 🤩 Remember that Crown Club members and season pass-holders get to stay after the show for autographs – the boys got to meet Santa!
When you are there, make sure to check out the spotlight raffle going on during the performances. Winners are chosen the Sunday after their final show. And, there are always The BonBonerie Fine Pastries there, which are themed to match the shows. The first thing my daughter does every TCT show is run straight for the cookies! She got a baggie of small round ones and then a Christmas tree cookie this time. You can also purchase light-up toys and such for your kiddos to get them more engaged in what they’re about to see.
Santa Claus: The Musical was a great play! As usual with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, it was entertaining and well done in every area, especially the set and costuming! TCT productions are certainly first-class all the way. This is theatre for kids but not by kids! Bob Herzog shone in the role of Nick, and the entire cast was full of musical and dancing (and prancing!) talent. One of the funniest things I heard a little boy say to his mom on our way out was, “How did the new Santa Claus grow his beard and belly that fast?!” The mom proceeded to explain about the wonder of theatre and props to her young son. It just filled my heart with joy to overhear. We are so fortunate to live in a city filled with a love for the arts.
Bringing some younger ones ourselves, we just love that it’s a judgement-free zone where kids can learn theatre etiquette in a safe place and get introduced to the theatre early. Whatever your age, you don’t want to miss this production. The Taft Theatre is located at 5th and Sycamore Streets in Downtown Cincinnati. Tickets for Santa Claus: The Musical start at just $12.
