Is your favorite color green? I hope so because you don’t want to get pinched next month! St. Patrick’s Day is just a few weeks away and with it comes colors of different shades of greens and the bright colors of rainbows. And let’s not forget our swag with lots of shiny golds.
I enjoy celebrating this holiday with my son, Blake. Here are some ways we celebrate:
- I made up traditions about leprechauns and pots of gold. I put green snacks on the table and tell my son that we have to leave out gold coins so the leprechaun would not eat our St.Patrick Day treats.
- We also started a coin jar last March, collecting and donating into our pot of gold jar. According to legend, if leprechauns found buried gold, they would take it and hide it somewhere else. So Blake would draw four leaf clovers to put around our money jar. This would keep the leprechaun away from our valuables.
- The old folktales remind us that there is a pot of gold hidden at the end of any rainbow. Have fun with this activity. Be creative and festive with the kids! They will love waking up to see if their treats are gone or if they caught a leprechaun!
- Read them a book. Find out what the leprechauns like and what they don’t like.
My biggest piece of advice is to make a plan for your special golden day and make it a magical St. Patrick’s Day for your kids.
