Cincinnati & NKY Guide to a DIY 4th of July

Our team has put together their best and most fun ideas for a DIY 4th of July you can try at home with kids of all ages! Happy Fourth!

  • Patriotic Jello – in clear glass jars or plastic cups, layer red Jello, blue Jello, and whipped cream, then top with red, white and blue sprinkles.Super easy and fun for younger kids to help make.
  • Blueberry, strawberry and marshmallow kabobs – they are red, white, blue, and delicious! You can also mix this in a bowl for a fruit salad-type dish.

  • Pop It Target Toss – draw a target on the driveway or sidewalk in red, white, and blue chalk and have the kids toss Pop Its into the target
  • Other than any of your typical lawn games like hillbilly golf, cornhole, and French darts.. you could rent a bounce house or dye eggs red and blue for an egg toss!
  • You could collect some old wine bottles, paint them fun colors, put them in a milk crate, and do a ring toss!
  • There are always finger painting and sparklers the kids love.
  • Fork Firework Painting by placing forks in paint and then dragging it across the paper
  • Homemade “fireworks” out of 2-liter bottles for baking soda and vinegar rockets

  • American flags out of paper or Popsicle sticks
  • Red, white, and blue streamers framing your doorways
  • Red, white, and blue clothes pin wreath (great for the teenagers!)
  • DIY Photo Booth – get a red or blue plastic table cloth, hang it on the wall, and have a small photo booth. You can make props out of miscellaneous items around the house (hats, scarves, glasses) and have craft time with your kids, cutting out or making different props to hold!
  • Line your yard or street with flags (with the kids’ help!) and talk about our freedom and the sacrifices made by others and those in your family for our country.
