Weekend Reset

0

My husband and I started a new routine at the beginning of this school year to help us and to help our 4th grader and kindergartener sons.

Our work week is Sunday through Thursday, so our weekend is not your typical weekend.  We start on Friday and clean the house, do laundry and grocery shop to make sure we are set for the next school week. We take inventory of what we may need for the week ahead and work hard to reset for the week.

This reset has been a game-changer for us. When Monday morning rolls around, I feel prepared and it gets our week off to a good start.

We also prepare our boys.

We sit and talk about options for lunches for the week. We even put our freshly cleaned laundry (I can do hard things, but I hate this part) away and make five outfits for the week. These outfits are complete with socks and underwear and they lay out the options in their room for them to pick one each morning after they wake up.

I am amazed at how involving them in this reset has helped us so much and giving them choices as to what outfit to choose gives them some ownership in our morning.

I have even instituted some changes to our after-school routine.

These boys are old enough to put their lunch boxes, water bottles and Bentgo boxes in the proper places after school to help us reset for the next day. They are rocking this responsibility with a little reminder.

After-school activities are easier when we plan and reset each night. We are in the midst of soccer season and I have a love for bags, so we get bags ready for all of our activities and are ready to go when it is time.

This new routine may just be the key to my sanity… and this weekend reset has been just what we needed.

How do you make your week run smoothly? Any reset tips?

Hey local mommas! I grew up in Centerville, but I now live in Wilmington with my husband Tony. Together we have 6 kids, Joe, and his wife Allison, Austin, and his wife Hannah, Sydney and her husband Hayden, Andrew and his wife Lauren and our littles, Max and Eli. Did I mention we are a little nuts starting over with this parenting thing when we are 45+? We are officially adding new titles to our names in 2022- Tiki and Jeep (our version of Grandma and Grandpa). My husband and I are both ministers, and we get to work together in a local church. We were both married before and brought our families together in 2010. After a few years of marriage we felt God's leading for us to adopt. We added Max to our family in 2014 and Eli joined us in 2017, our quiver is officially full! Blending our family has been an adventure! Add some ex-spouses and two birth mommas and we have ourselves a crazy crew! Coffee is my love language. The beach is my happy place and I long to have my toes in the sand.
