I use the word loathe very seldom because it’s such a strong word. But I LOATHE Black Friday.
There is nothing else I hate more than people putting shopping before family. I always feel bad for the workers, too, with many stores opening Thanksgiving Thursday afternoon/evening for the deals.
While everyone is entitled to their own opinion about this shopping holiday, these are the 3 reasons I loathe Black Friday:
1. Crowds – I have no desire to wait in long lines to buy things, but I’ve never really been a big shopper. So, honestly – shopping with crowds has me like meh. I enjoy shopping in the evening OR really early in the morning. I enjoy the peace and quiet. I love to leisurely roam the aisles at my own pace, sipping a cup of coffee. “Ooooo look a cute sweater? That looks neat, I may buy that,” I can think to myself. I do not like being rushed, so the Black Friday atmosphere gives me anxiety.
2. I mean, stores are open every other day! – What’s so special about shopping on Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday? The deals? Because truthfully, if you want a TV for $99 bucks, the store only has like two of them anyway. Why go through all the hassle? Seems like a waste of time to me. AND, you see videos and news stories of people literally fighting over products. Is that really in the best Christmas spirit?
3. Loses the real meaning of Thanksgiving. Last time I checked, Thanksgiving was supposed to be a holiday where you give thanks for everything in your life. I usually spend these couple days off with my family, enjoying time with my loved ones. We spend Black Friday in our jammies at our house. We play board games, eat in, snuggle and watch movies. I refuse to head to the stores. Family time is the best time! After the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving Day, we slow down and reflect on the true meaning of the holiday.
What are your thoughts? Do you enjoy Black Friday shopping? As for me, I’m going to stick with Cyber Monday from the comfort of my couch.
