I’ve been a little sentimental lately. Maybe its the change in seasons or the fact that I now have two children in Middle School (send good thoughts my way!), but I realized that my kids have changed me. It’s funny, but the older I get, the more I realize that I not only teach my kids, but they teach me. Do you find that in your life as well? From the moment that little one pops into your life, things are different. You consider every decision a little differently and the implication of that decision has a more lasting affect. At first, I thought this would make me a more timid version of myself, but I can tell you now, I believe, that I have grown to be a much better individual. One who is not only more brave, but more willing to take a risk.
My kids not only keep me on my toes, but they are the reason I push myself to try new things and put myself out there in the way that I do.
Kids today, and mine included, are blessed to be given the opportunity to try all kinds of activities like; horse back riding, zip lining, and even roller coasters I never would have tried as a child. I watch them with such pride that they are willing to try even if they might fail. They join teams, they change schools, and they make new friends all the time.
And I have learned something from my kids. I can try new things. I can put myself out there even if I might fail. I can make new friends.
This is one reason why I decided to write and blog. In addition to becoming part of the contributing team for CMB, my personal blog is a culmination of all the dreams I always had, but never tried. My chance to try that new class, decorate that new space, teach that new idea and even as simple as try that new outfit. You can find my musings and my risk taking over at My Life From Home blog, where I share it all with you on a daily basis.
My kids have taught me that it’s ok to take risks even if you’re scared because the biggest reward is in trying! Oh, and the laughter that you hear when they make fun of your dancing is worth every risk!
