No Technology Tuesday

Technology is great, for real… until it isn’t.

One evening when talking to a friend on the phone, I told her I needed to get off the phone but I would call her tomorrow. She said she was not available tomorrow because it was No Technology Tuesday at their house, and went on to explain that they unplug on Tuesdays but to call her on Wednesday and we would pick up where we left off.

This made my head spin. A whole day with no technology?

Her explanation was spot on. She shared with me that having a pre-teen, this day was one that she ended up looking forward to each week. No electronics, no TV and no phone, and everyone in the family had to participate. She went on to tell me that everyone seemed to be on board with NTT (hip slang for No Technology Tuesday) and enjoyed being together.

I called her on Wednesday and we continued our conversation from a few days prior, and I asked how NTT went for her. She said she loves it. NTT forces her and her family to slow down and enjoy the evening without distractions, but she is glad when Wednesday morning rolls around and she can hop back on some technology.

Technology is great. I am a fan of all things Facebook, Instagram, Google, City Mom Collective, texting, and even those funny TikToks of the guy telling funny jokes that he can barely finish because he is cracking himself up. But taking a break from it all sounds nice, even if it is for just one day a week.

No Technology Tuesday? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Hey local mommas! I grew up in Centerville, but I now live in Wilmington with my husband Tony. Together we have 6 kids, Joe, and his wife Allison, Austin, and his wife Hannah, Sydney and her husband Hayden, Andrew and his wife Lauren and our littles, Max and Eli. Did I mention we are a little nuts starting over with this parenting thing when we are 45+? We are officially adding new titles to our names in 2022- Tiki and Jeep (our version of Grandma and Grandpa). My husband and I are both ministers, and we get to work together in a local church. We were both married before and brought our families together in 2010. After a few years of marriage we felt God's leading for us to adopt. We added Max to our family in 2014 and Eli joined us in 2017, our quiver is officially full! Blending our family has been an adventure! Add some ex-spouses and two birth mommas and we have ourselves a crazy crew! Coffee is my love language. The beach is my happy place and I long to have my toes in the sand.
