Natural Body Care Products (yes, they work!): Women’s Edition {Series}

0

NaturalOver the years, I have been trying to “green” our life even more. We have started using cloth diapers, nixed dryer sheets, started cleaning more with vinegar and baking soda, and using reusable grocery bags, to name a few. Also, that means we’ve tossed out some conventional, chemical-laden body care products and replaced them with more natural versions.

Don’t waste your money on products without knowing they work! Read this post and learn which ones I’ve tried instead.

Primal Pit Paste

IMG_6931This stuff is amazing. I have tried a lot of different natural deodorants after learning more about the risks and potential health hazards of conventional aluminum-based antiperspirants. I am totally on board with avoiding those chemicals. I am not, however, on board with smelling terrible because of that choice. I was convinced there was a better way. And there is! There is Primal Pit Paste. The price point may seem high, but it lasts a lot longer in my opinion that a regular tube of deodorant, plus it won’t give me cancer. Win.

Giovanni Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil Conditioner

IMG_6936My hair is thick, curly and tends to be frizzy. I can look at my hair instead of watching the weather to know if it is going to rain. I need a conditioner that works. After learning about the health dangers associated with SLS and methylparabens, I started buying more natural hair care products. I was afraid my hair would look worse and get frizzier. With some of the products I tried that was true, but this conditioner actually improved my hair texture. The other benefit to choosing these products over conventional shampoos and conditioners is that my hair is actually less greasy since there aren’t harsh chemicals over-drying my scalp. Conventional shampoos that over-dry the scalp make your hair greasier, as the scalp responds to being over-dried by making more oil! Sometimes “squeaky clean” is not a good thing.

Andalou Naturals Toning Refresher

IMG_6934I used to not be a believer in toner, but I definitely see a difference in my skin when I use this after washing my face. I feel like it refreshes my skin, closes my pores, and helps my skin hold my moisturizer longer. I only use 3 spritzes at a time, so a bottle lasts me a long time.

Andalou Naturals All-in-One Beauty Balm Sheer Tint with SPF 30

IMG_6933Seriously, I love this stuff. After I use my toner, I put this on. It’s like 3 in 1- a lotion, a light foundation, and a sunscreen. Now that I’m in my 30’s, I am becoming more aware of the importance of sunscreen on my face. (I wish I would’ve started wearing it in my 20’s!) It’s lightly tinted, so I skip foundation and just use powder over it. I am consistently complimented on how radiant and fresh my skin looks when I wear this.

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Dry-Oil Sunscreen

IMG_6943While I am not an obsessive sunscreen user I do apply some after we’ve been out for a bit, or if we are gonna be at the pool for awhile. I think it is important to get some sun exposure for Vitamin D.

Kiss My Face 4-in-1 Moisture Shave

IMG_6935This shaving cream is so amazing. It lasts forever and really moisturizes as I shave. I only use 1 pump for my whole calf and get quite a bit of coverage. I’ve also found that it helps reduce and eliminate razor burn.
