I love it when my seed catalog comes in the mail.
Last year I got the catalog, threw it away, and resorted to purchasing Dollar General seeds. Not my best decision.
This year will be different. I have begun planning exactly what I want in my garden, based on what we will eat and how I will lay out the plants in my raised garden beds. I know I need to upgrade my greenhouse and make some adjustments.
I love to grow my plants from seed and look forward to it each year.
I earmarked all the pages in the catalog of the seeds I wanted to buy and then logged into the website to place my desired seeds in the cart. I’m making sure the seeds will grow in my zone before I purchase and making sure I have the space and soil needed.
All of this planning is happening when there is snow falling outside and the temps are frigid. I’m sporting a hat, boots, winter coat, and thick socks, and I am dreaming of the spring and how much growth will happen in my greenhouse and garden. It takes planning and patience. I have to be intentional about what I plant, and make a plan and implement it.
The seed catalog reminds me of choosing the other things I plant. Kindness, compassion, forgiveness, love, and many other “seeds” are even more important than the seeds that produce fruits and vegetables.
These seeds are life-changing and seeds that will produce more and more each year, if cultivated and fertilized.
I plant them in my children and hope and pray that they grow and sow seeds of their own. I plant them in my friends and in the people that I do life with and hope for a plentiful harvest.
You won’t find these seeds in a catalog; you’ve already got the seeds, you just need to plant them in others. You need to be intentional and patient.
So, plant a seed. The beauty that comes from the edible ones are amazing, but the ones you plant in others are priceless.
