TCT presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella: Youth Edition at the Taft Theatre this month. This magical musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein will feature a BIPOC creative team, and diversity will be celebrated as your favorite characters show us “Impossible” is possible! If you loved the 1997 film version of this classic musical, you won’t want to miss this enchanting production! We got a first glance on opening day of the show’s run to give you all the best tips and inside info, so you can get your tickets and enjoy the show.
Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, this enthralling fairy tale still warms the hearts of children and adults alike.
Ideal for ages 4+. This production runs 60 minutes without an intermission.
We got our Crown Club treats first when we got there (off to the hallway on the right when you come in). There are signs next to the merchandise table directing to the pick-up for the special goodies club members receive before the show. It was a magnetic timer this time. When we took our seats and looked at the stage, we saw all the different variations of clocks and thought the timers were even more fun. Remember that Crown Club members and season pass-holders get to stay after the show for autographs (line up in the right hallways for this as well)! Make sure you go over to the left hallway to get your show-themed cookies from The BonBonerie Fine Pastries, which are always amazing!!
TCT productions are first-class all the way. This is theatre for kids but not by kids! These are some of the most talented professional actors, singers, and dancers from our city that are in these shows. The diverse cast in this show was incredible. TCT outdid themselves once again with the set design as always!
We did a double daddy-daughter date to this show. My dad came with me and my daughter, and then we invited a couple special guests to join us. My dad really enjoyed the show, and my daughter said she just wished it had been longer, so they could tell even more of the Cinderella story. The other daddy and his 5-year-old daughter were the absolute sweetest. She said she LOVED IT afterwards. It was their very first TCT show, and she did so well the whole time we were there. We just love that it’s a judgement-free zone where young kids can learn theatre etiquette in a safe place and get introduced to the theatre early. Whatever your age, you don’t want to miss this production.
